Italy’s Alessandro Braconi has been handed a record 36-year ban from competition after the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) accused him of using, possessing and dealing in banned substances.
Italian athlete Alessandro Braconi received a serious disqualification
The 36-year-old runner will not be able to compete until 2058, when he will be 72 years old, which will be one of the longest suspensions in the history of athletics, writes Runner’s World.
The “record holder” is also the Italian Roberto Barbi, who in 2008 received a 38-year disqualification.
Braconi was suspended in 2022 for a positive doping test that led to a 12-year ban from the AIU, but the Italian Athletics Federation added a further 24 years as the investigation progressed.
The athletics integrity group did not specify which banned substance the athlete used.
