No. 13 qualifier Gabriela Ruse (ranked 112 in the world) was defeated by France’s Selena Janicevic (185 WTA), 7-5, 6-3. The match lasted two hours.
In the other match of the day, Oleksandra Kadantsu-Ignatik (171st place in the world ranking) lost to Eva Lis (Germany – 127 WTA) in two sets with the score 6-4, 6-1. The match lasted one hour and 17 minutes.
After these defeats, Romania was left without representatives in the qualification in Melbourne, all four athletes were eliminated: Iryna Bara, Gabriela Lee Talaba, Gabriela Ruse, Oleksandra Kadancu-Ignatic.
