Nole lived up to his status as the top favorite to beat the Canadian, who is ranked 18th in the world, 6-3, 6-4. The game lasted one hour and 55 minutes.

This is the eighth official victory of the Serb over Shapovalov. Denys beat Joker once, but that was at a demo tournament in 2019.

Djokovic (5 ATP) will fight for a place in the finals of the competition in Australia with Daniil Medvedev (7 ATP, former world leader). The third favorite made it to the quarters of his compatriot Karen Khachanov, the score 6-3, 6-3.

“When you play against Daniil, you have to be ready to give yourself physically, mentally, from the point of view of the game. He is one of the best players in the world in the last five years. He’s made a name for himself, he’s a Grand Slam winner, a former world number one, a person I have a lot of respect for. Over the years we have had some great fights, I hope it will be the same tomorrow” – Novak Djokovic about the match with Danylo Medvedev.
