FC Barcelona managed to avoid a bitter setback after being held at bay by third division side Intercity in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey. The Catalans scored the winning goal in extra time.

FC Intercity – FC Barcelona 3-4, King’s Cup

With Busquets, Ferran Torres and Dembele in the starting line-up but without Lewandowski, Barcelona quickly opened the scoring through Arujo in the 4th minute and it looked like the game would go smoothly.

Soldevila equalized in the 59th minute, Dembele made it 2-1 in the 66th minute, but the same home player leveled again in the 74th minute.

Hoping to level the game, Xavi’s side scored again through Rafinha in the 77th minute, only for Third Division star midfielder Soldevila to complete his hat-trick in the 86th minute.

After 90 minutes and an impressive 3-3 draw, Barcelona scored and secured a hard-fought victory in the first extra time thanks to Ans Fati in the 103rd minute.

CF Intercity competes in Primera Division RFEF, Spain’s third division. The team from Alicante this season ranks 16th out of 20 teams.
