Pele: Santos says goodbye to the “king” with a crown and the word “eternal”

Santos was the team that Pelé grew up with and built his “myth”, the great football “love” of his life, along with the Brazil national team.

Along with the news of the death of 82-year-old Pele, a large photo of the crown with the word “Eternal” was uploaded on the Brazilian team’s official social media accounts.

Santos even recently changed his insignia, adding a crown above two stars.

The night he took Santos to the top of the world

One of Pelé’s iconic football moments, a magical night of his own and Santos’ lives, took place in Lisbon as they climbed to the top of the world together.

It was October 11, 1962, when Pelé’s Santos won the Intercontinental Cup by beating Benfica 5-2 in a great match between Pelé and Eusebio.

Santos, who won 3-2 in Brazil, already after twenty-five minutes of play was ahead with two goals from Pelé (0-2). The remaining goals were scored by Coutinho, Pelé and Pepe, while Eusebio and Santana scored for Benfica.
