Austrian three-time Olympic skiing champion Matthias Mayer has announced the end of his career.
“For the last few days I have been thinking and thinking it is time to retire. It’s enough. I don’t have enough appetite anymore.
It was a great season last year when I won my third Olympic gold.
I started well this winter, I’m happy, but that’s enough. I understand that my decision may be unexpected, but now competitive sports are a thing of the past,” he said Mathias Mayer.
At age 32, Mayer finished fourth this winter at Beaver Creek and Lake Louise and third at Val Gardena.
In an impressive career, the Austrian has won Olympic gold in Sochi in 2014 (downhill), PyeongChang in 2018 (SG) and Beijing in 2022 (SG). Mayer also won bronze this year in Beijing.
