In an Instagram post, Pele congratulated Argentina on their win and said “Diego is smiling now”, referring to the death of Diego Armando Maradona.

“Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, with enthusiasm. Messi won his first World Cup, as his course deserved.

My dear friend Mbappe scored four goals in the final (three in 2022, one in 2018). What a gift for the future of our sport to watch this show.

And I can’t help but congratulate Morocco for an incredible campaign. Great to see Africa shine. Congratulations Argentina! Diego is smiling now” – Pelein a personal Instagram account.

Pele watched the World Cup final from hospital, where he has been since November 30 due to an infection caused by the Covid-19 infection.
