Deschamps managed to lead France to the finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the coach joining a select list of national teams with two consecutive World Cup finals.

Here we have Vittorio Pozzo (played in World Cup finals with Italy in 1934 and 1938), Carlos Bilardo (scored two finals with Argentina in 1986 and 1990) and Franz Beckenbauer (1986, 1990).

The difference between the three mentioned above is that Pozzo won both finals (Italy-Czechoslovakia 2-1 after extra time, Italy-Hungary 4-2).

Bilardo won the trophy in 1986 (3-2 with West Germany in the grand final, but lost it four years later against the same opposition: 0-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome).

If he can win the World Cup in Sunday’s final against Argentina, Didier Deschamps will equal an 84-year-old record.
