New BMW M2, adrenaline shot

The sporty appearance of the new BMW M2 is defined by its compact dimensions, dynamic proportions and M design elements. It is 214 mm shorter than the BMW M4 in length and its wheelbase is 110 mm shorter. At the same time, the width of the vehicle and the tracks are much greater than those of the new BMW 2 Series.

The inline six-cylinder version stands out with standard M performance characteristics. Differing only in a few details from the engine used in the BMW M3 and BMW M4 models, the 3.0-litre unit develops a maximum output of 460 hp. The engine under the hood of the new M2 outperforms the base unit used by its predecessor by 90 horsepower. The maximum torque of 550 Nm is achieved in the range from 2650 to 5870 rpm, and the maximum power is reached at 6250 rpm. The new engine has a maximum rev limit of 7200 rpm. The increase in engine power is accompanied by an emotionally rich sound produced by a special M exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps. The oil supply system, like the cooling system, is designed for highly dynamic driving conditions on the highway. The M2 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds with the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and in 4.3 seconds with the six-speed manual. It can accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h in 13.5 seconds (automatic) or 14.3 seconds (manual). The top speed (limited by the electronic clutch) is 250 km/h and can be increased to 285 km with the optional M Driver’s Package.

Top speed (limited by electronic clutch) is 250 km/h but can be increased (optional package) to 285 km/h.

Regardless of the choice of transmission, the traditional form of BMW M2 performance is also embodied in rear-wheel drive. The linear development of the lateral acceleration forces that characterizes the M models helps the driver to steer the vehicle, for example in controlled skid corners. The standard M Traction Control feature is also designed to allow the driver to safely test the limits of the vehicle’s performance by setting limits on the intervention of individual systems to limit wheel slip in a choice of ten steps.

The new BMW M2 features a driver-focused cockpit that incorporates M-specific instruments, controls and customization options, as well as BMW’s advanced curved display. Driving information such as gearshift indicators is displayed in a new graphical form on the 12.3-inch information screen. Model-specific M widgets for vehicle configuration and tire status are just two items that can be displayed on the 14.9-inch control screen. The optional BMW Head-Up Display also includes M-specific display. The global launch of the new M2 will begin in April 2023.
