Simona Halep (31 years old, 10th WTA) would prove that Roxadustat got into her body through a contaminated supplement, the label of which did not indicate the presence of a substance in the EPO class. This was stated by the Romanian judge of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Christian Jura.

“It appears that the method by which Roxadustat entered the athlete’s body has been identified, namely through the consumption of a contaminated dietary supplement. A contaminated product is a product that contains a prohibited substance, not listed on the product label or in information available through a reasonable search on the Internet,” Yura said, according to ProSport.

What’s next for Halep? If the above scenario comes true, our athlete will still have to prove the lack of intention to use a prohibited substance to improve sports results, Yura claims, and in this case Simona will avoid disqualification.
