​University of Craiova – FC U Craiova 1948, the final match of the 19th stage of the Romanian Championship, will take place on Saturday, December 3, at 19:00 at the Ion Oblemenko Stadium, live on Digi Sport 1, Prima TV, Prima Sport 2 and Orange Sports 1.
The two teams from Craiova meet in the city derby in completely different positions: Universitat is firmly in the play-offs, although still fighting for the podium, and FC U 1948 occupy a direct relegation spot despite a good start to the championship.
Craiova University are in 4th place with 32 points from 18 matches and missed out on the podium in midweek when the match ended in a 1-1 draw, trailing Chindia Tirgovishte after conceding a goal in the 90th minute.
“A city derby awaits us, a match of pride. I hope we will live up to the fans and expectations. It’s a match where ranking doesn’t matter, everyone wants to win, even if the opponents play double top, but even if they were triple top, nothing can motivate us more than the derby and we want to win I think this match is much more important for us than the match against FCSB,” said Mirel Redoi, coach of the University of Craiova.
FC Craiova 1948 are in 15th place with just 16 points from 18 matches, following a run of three consecutive defeats in the Super League, two of them at home: 1-2 at Farul Konstanz (a), 1-3 at CFR Cluj (d) and 1-2 with FCSB (a).
“In the last match we dominated from end to end. Hopefully we have fair refereeing because in the last two games the referee helped them win. We are under enormous pressure. What we hoped and dreamed about in the beginning and where are we now! We are fighting to avoid relegation,” said Adrian Mititelou, owner of FC Kraiova 1948.
So far, these two teams have met five times (three times in the first league), and Universitat Craiova have won four times against Craiova 1948, with one match ending in a draw. The last direct match was FC U Craiova 1948 – Universitatia Craiova 1-2 (Kompanio 70p / Ad. Ivan 41p, Hancha 45+4p), on August 7, 2022.
