Stephanie Frapar made history when she was appointed referee for Costa Rica’s match against Germany, becoming the first woman to referee a men’s World Cup match. The 38-year-old Frenchwoman will be accompanied by two women and her assistants will be Salima Mukansaga from Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamasta from Japan.
“The Men’s World Championship is the most important sporting event in the world. I refereed matches in France and Europe, so I know how to deal with it,” Frapar said.
Stephanie Frapard became the first woman to referee a Coupe de France final and also the first woman to referee a match in the men’s Champions League.
This Thursday, an all-female judging trio will take charge of the men’s @Soccer World Cup match for the first time.
Stephanie Frappart will be joined by Nose’s assistants Buck and Karen Diaz who will supervise @fedefootbolcrc against @DFB_Team.
