The United States defeated Iran 1-0 to advance to the round of 16 of the World Cup. Pulisic’s goal in the first half decided the game.

The USA will play the Netherlands in the next round on 3 December.

Characteristically, the movement initiative belonged to the guests in the first minutes of the match. The US looked to create dangerous situations mainly with McKenney, but Carlos Queiroz’s team was well organized defensively.

In the 28th minute, Pulisic received a vertical pass to Sargent, the ball parried and reached Weah, but Beiranvad blocked. The half turned out to be very long and with strong fights, mostly in the center of the field.

In the 82nd minute, Turner showed his reflexes in Karimi’s attempt. Carlos Queiroz’s team were looking to level the score.

In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Rezayan struck with a header, and the ball was wide of the mark. At the 98th minute, the deep pass of the Iranian players had no effect.
