World Cup 2022: Tension with Iranian journalist at Iran-US press conference (video)

Iran will face the USA in one of the most special matches of the third match of the World Cup. The match, in addition to the great scoring interest, also has an out-of-competition background, due to the relations between the two countries.

During a press conference, Tyler Adams mispronounced Iran’s name, referring to it as Iran. A reporter from an Asian country asked him to correct his mistake and then asked him how he felt about portraying a racist country.

The player apologized. He then stated that “wherever you go, there is discrimination. One thing that I’ve learned, especially during my years abroad where I’ve had to fit into the culture, is that in the US, we’re making progress every day. I grew up in a white family of clearly African American descent.

So I got things from different cultures and it was easier to understand. Not everyone has the ability to do this, and of course it takes some people time to figure it out. Through education, which is very important. For example, you taught me how to pronounce the name of your country correctly. It’s an evolutionary process.”
