Mattia Binotto will leave Ferrari at the end of 2022. The 53-year-old Scuderia engineer and team leader has decided to step down from his post.
Binotto was in a bad mood after a bad season for Ferrari. The 53-year-old engineer joined Ferrari in 1995. In January 2019, he was named Team Principal, replacing Maurizio Arrivabene.
“I have decided to stop working with Ferrari. I’m leaving the company I love, the company I’ve worked for for 28 years, confident that I did everything I could to achieve our goals. I am leaving a close-knit team that is constantly growing up. A strong team that is ready – I’m sure – to achieve better results in the future. It’s a difficult decision, but I believe it’s also the right one,” Binotto said, among other things, in a statement.
“I would like to thank Mattia for his contribution over the course of 28 years at Ferrari and in particular for making the team competitive again over the past year. Everyone here at the Scuderia and in the wider Ferrari community wishes Matthias the best for the future,” said Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna.
