2022 World Cup, South Korea 2-3 Ghana: Africans hope for qualification

Ghana beat South Korea 3-2 to advance to Group 8 of the World Cup. Otto Ando’s team remained hopeful of reaching the playoffs.

The Africans scored 3 points and fulfilled their group obligations against Uruguay. Paulo Bento’s team is left with 1 point and will face Portugal in the third and last matchday of the group.

Paulo Bento’s team took control of the game from the start. South Korea won several corners in the first quarter but failed to capitalize on their superiority and pose a real threat.

Ghana managed to surprise the opponent in the 24th minute. After the foul, Salisu scored with a header and sent the ball into Kim’s goal.

The Koreans looked lost on the field after conceding the ball. In the 34th minute, Otto Ando’s team handed out the ball beautifully, Jordan Ayew made a beautiful pass, and Kundus doubled Ghana’s goals with his head.

Paulo Bento’s team approached the second half decisively. In the 53rd minute, Ziggy interfered heavily with Cho’s header.

South Korea equalized 2–2 with two goals from Cho’s header in the 58th and 60th minutes. The match was “on” forever.

Otto Ando’s team scored the third goal in the 68th minute. After a cross from the left, Inaki Williams chaffed and the ball reached Kundous, who sent it into the net with a close-range shot.

In the 75th minute, Ziggy intervened perfectly in Lee’s direct foul. In the 84th minute, Ji-Sung shot from the penalty area, but his effort went over the crossbar.

At the end of the match, the Asians put a lot of pressure. Paulo Bento’s team pursued the goal, but Cho and Kim’s efforts fell short.
