The Danish Football Association has announced that it will not support Gianni Infantino in the FIFA elections. The 52-year-old lawyer will be the only candidate in the elections to be held on March 16, 2023 in Kigali, Rwanda.
The country’s football federation is responding to FIFA’s decision and the OneLove armband ban during World Cup matches. The World Federation was ready to punish not only the players with a yellow card, but also the teams.
The president of the federation spoke to the press on Wednesday and said he was outraged by FIFA’s actions. “There is only one candidate and we will have to see if there is another. There is still time, but Denmark will not support the current president,” said Jesper Meller.
“This situation is extremely unusual. I’m not just disappointed, I’m angry. This is my seventh event as president. It is completely unacceptable for players to be exposed to such an impact. We must respond,” the Danish actor added.
Recall that England, Germany, the Netherlands, Wales, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland have previously announced that their team captains will wear the OneLove armband at the tournament in Qatar. The seven football confederations were determined to circumvent the rule that every national team’s kit must not include political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images, but the punishment of the players forced them to back down.
