With goals from Cody Gakpo in the 84th minute and Klaasen in stoppage time, the Netherlands won 2–0 against Senegal in the first round of the first group of the World Cup.

The first minutes of the match went at a good pace. At the 4th minute, Bergwijn did not have time to make a projection and threaten. A little later, Alios Cisse’s team had two good moments with Cisse and Dia from Olympiacos.

Orani missed the biggest moment of the first half in the 20th minute. De Jong found himself completely alone in front of Mendy, but he was late and was cut off by the opponent’s defense.

In the 25th, Saar leaned over and fired, but his shot was blocked. Van Gaal’s players had the ball and tried to create phases. In the 40th minute, Berghaus shot wide of the target.

In the 53rd minute, Van Dijk headed the ball, but the ball flew over the crossbar. In the 65th minute, Knoppert intervened perfectly in Dia’s attempt.

Orani struggled to create chances. Gakpo offered a solution for Louis van Gaal’s team in the 84th minute. The Eindhoven forward headed into De Jong’s cross to beat Mendy.

Shortly thereafter, Knoppert showed his reflexes in the Senegalese attempt. The hosts usually moved the ball, but did not pose much of a threat. In stoppage time, Klaassen doubled his team’s score.
