Andriy Shevchenko resigned from the position of the head of the Olympic Committee of Ukraine
According to L’Equipe, Shevchenko resigned due to differences with some of the new members of the board of directors, who are considered pro-Russian.
“During the most difficult period in the history of my country, I am proud that I can be with Ukraine and help in all possible ways for the sake of our victory. I believe that the Olympic Committee is doing an honorable job, and I understand the importance of development.
At the same time, I cannot remain in the committee in this form. We pay an infinitely high price for our freedom, with the lives of the best Ukrainians. We must be worthy of them” – Andriy Shevchenko on Facebook.
A few hours after Andriy Shevchenko, politician Nestor Shufrych and ex-president of the Football Federation of Ukraine Hryhoriy Surkis also resigned.
According to insidethegames.biz, Shufrych is a member of a pro-Russian party and was arrested on March 4 for allegedly passing information on the deployment of Ukrainian troops and other details about the Ukrainian army to the Russian armed forces.
Surkis fled Ukraine in the first days of the war. He also had connections with a pro-Russian party, writes News.ro.
