The sprint race at the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix was a less pleasant episode for the Alpine team. The team’s two drivers are waging a real war, with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon facing off in two rows at the São Paulo circuit.
A war between teammates Alonso and Ocon from the Alpine team
The images speak for themselves about the nature of the intense conflict that exists between the two teammates. Alonso and Ocon collided in two rows, and these episodes deprived the team of a good position on the starting grid in Brazil.
“I lost my front wing thanks to … our friend,” Alonso says after the second collision with Ocon.
Alpine will start the Brazilian Grand Prix from 17th and 18th, far from the expectations of the team, which is fourth in the constructors’ standings.
At the end of the sprint race, Alonso lashed out at his teammate, saying, among other things, that he “doesn’t need to talk to him”. “One more race and that’s it, I’m finally out,” said the Iberian, visibly irritated by his strained relationship with Ocon.
“We are extremely disappointed with today’s result. We are fighting hard for 4th place in the constructors’ standings (without a duel with McLaren), on which more than 1,000 people are working non-stop. Both riders let the team down,” says Othmar Schaffnauer, director of Alpine.
