Gerard Pique, an emotional speech after the last match of his career

Before the start of the match, Pique (35) entered the field with the captain’s armband on his arm, and his partners were dressed in a T-shirt with his name on it..

In the 84th minute, the defender was replaced by Andreas Christensen, and nearly 100,000 fans at Camp Nou gave him a standing ovation.

“It was a wonderful day. It’s nice to say goodbye like that. There was a connection with people from the first day to the last. After all, a career is many years, many games, I was lucky to win enough, but you stay with experience, friendship, nights from the European Championship, from the World Championship.

The names are numbers, metal, but what remains is the experience. True, I did not dream of such an end. I never thought about leaving. I always thought “one more year”. Things happen a certain way. I have always been very clear with myself.

Those six months were very difficult, and I think it showed. Today was graduation. To be able to play from the very beginning, in front of people, I take this unforgettable memory with me. Life goes on. Now a thousand possibilities open up. I need to organize myself a bit. I think this is my home. I was born here and I will return.

It’s time to part ways for a while. We will come back with more power. Enjoy life with family and friends. After Osasuna, I will go on vacation to disconnect.

The changes felt like a weight off my shoulders. These last months have not been easy at all. I was left with happiness that I gave everything. When competing and playing, I always tried to give my best. Better days or worse, but I gave it my all. It makes me feel proud. I go calm and happy” – Gerard PiqueBrand reports.
