Ties according to the sixth criterion

Benfica and PSG were level on points and had the same goal difference. The draw was made only according to the sixth criterion, the Lusitanians managed to score more away goals in the group matches.

PSG coach Christophe Galtier talked about the split of “Benfica” and the squad he is preparing.

“I could foresee everything, I knew this possibility, which is probably unique in history. Firstly, congratulations to Benfica, who scored more goals than us away from home. Then I congratulate my players, we scored 14 points, scored a lot of goals, beat Juventus twice.

In the 92nd minute, we were happy, but in the end… This is the Champions League. Like, this competition is irrational.

We will wait for the draw. To go further, we have to beat big teams, but we’ll see.”

Bayern Munich is the most likely opponent for PSG

Julien Guillon, professor of applied mathematics at l’École des Ponts ParisTech, calculated the probability of the draw for the 1/8 finals of the Champions League, reports L’Equipe.

Thus, the most likely opponent for the French is Bayern Munich (19.46%), followed by Napoli (17.11%), Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea (13.9%), Real Madrid (10.98%) and Porto (10.79%).
