The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) fined RedBull for breaching the budget limit for the last Formula 1 season.
We are talking about the $7 million fine received by RedBull from the FIA. In addition, the Austrian team reduced by 10% the limit allocated to aerodynamic tests in the wind tunnel and computer simulations for the next year.
Ferrari says RedBull gained a couple of tenths on a lap due to a rules violation
Laurent Mequies, sporting director of Scuderia Ferrari, tried to explain the advantage of rivals RedBull by breaking the salary cap.
Speaking to Sky Italia, a Ferrari official spoke about how big RedBull’s benefit was from breaking the salary cap.
We are talking about exceeding the financial regulation by 1.8 million pounds, money that the Austrians spent on the development of single-seater cars.
“For the past few weeks, we’ve been talking about what an extra half a million, a million, two or three could do.
Two million (no euros) is a significant amount and we have often discussed this issue.
We at Ferrari believe that this amount is worth around a few tenths (without a circle), so it is easy to understand that these numbers can have a real impact on race results and possibly even the championship,” says Laurent Mekis.
A Ferrari representative says the financial penalty dictated by the FIA is insignificant for RedBull and that the Austrians can even use the money they will no longer be able to spend on aerodynamic tests for other components of the single-seater.
In the current season, RedBull is mathematically confident of the drivers’ championship, where Max Verstappen is the world champion for the second year in a row.
Also, the Austrian team won the constructors’ title for the first time since 2013 (then the team’s pilots were Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber).
Until the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season, three Grands Prix are left: Mexico (October 30), Brazil (November 13) and Abu Dhabi (November 20).
