Australia criticized Qatar on the eve of the 2022 World Cup

In the video, 16 players (including captain Matt Ryan) talk about the situation with migrant workers and LGBTQ rights.

“We are working together with FIFPro, the International Construction and Wood Workers’ Organization and the International Trade Union Confederation to integrate some reforms and create a strong legacy in Qatar. This should include the creation of a resource center for migrants, effective solutions for those whose rights have not been respected, and the decriminalization of same-sex relationships. These are fundamental rights that should be extended to all and will ensure progress in Qatar and a legacy that will last beyond the final whistle of the 2022 World Cup.” said the Australians.

Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani said on Tuesday that his country has faced an “unprecedented” campaign of criticism for hosting the World Cup, writes News.ro.

“Having the honor of hosting the FIFA World Cup, Qatar has been the target of an unprecedented campaign that no other host nation has experienced.” said the Emir of Qatar during the performance.

Qatar was awarded the 2010 World Cup by FIFA, and the emirate has spent tens of billions of dollars preparing for the event, which will be held from November 20 to December 18.

But the wealthy state has faced numerous criticisms over its treatment of foreign workers, LGBTQ and women’s rights or the use of air conditioning in its eight $6.75 billion stadiums.

The Australian national team will play at the World Cup in Group D with France, Denmark and Tunisia.
