The tennis tournament in Basel started on October 24, but one of the biggest surprises so far happened in the match between Stanislas Wawrinka (194 ATP) and Kasper Ruud (3 ATP).

Three-time Grand Slam winner (Australian Open 2014, Roland Garros 2015 and US Open 2016) Stanislas Wawrinka is slowly coming to the end of his tennis career, but it looks like the Swiss still has a lot to prove on the court.

The 37-year-old Wawrinka became the protagonist of one of the biggest surprises at the ATP tournament in Basel, which received a total prize money of 2,135,350 euros.

From the very first round, the Swiss eliminated one of the favorites to win the tournament, the Norwegian Kasper Ruud, who is ranked 3rd in the ATP hierarchy.

The Roland Garros and US Open finalist was unable to answer the experienced Wawrinka, who took an hour and 20 minutes to settle the tie, finishing 6-4.

In the next stage of the competition, Stanislas Wawrinka will meet with the American Brandon Nakashima (43 ATP).
