Christoph Daum led the Romanian national team from July 2016 to September 2017. After leaving the “three-color” team, the German technician no longer coached the team, and on Friday announced on his personal Instagram account that he was diagnosed with cancer.

​Christoph Daum, the former coach of Romania, is sick with cancer

Daum did not train again after parting ways with the first team of Romania, and on Friday afternoon he went public with information about his health.

At age 68, Daum said he was diagnosed with cancer.

“Congratulations, dear friends of football. I want to reach out to you with a personal message: I have unfortunately had to retire from public life in recent months after being diagnosed with cancer following a routine check-up.

Since then, Professor Dr. Jürgen Wolff and his team have been taking care of me and I am proud to report that the treatment is doing well for me.

I am a fighter and will approach this challenge with optimism and all my strength. Please respect the fact that I need privacy right now to get well soon,” he said, among other things. Daum.

During his career, the German also coached Cologne, Stuttgart, Besiktas, Bayern Munich, Austria Wien, Fenerbahce, Eintracht, Club Brugge and Bursaspor.
