​Patrick Muratoulou is gearing up for the 2023 season on the WTA circuit, and as such, the French coach is desperately looking for a training partner for Simona Halep.

The Polish press put forward two possible names: Piotr Grynkowski and Albert Chudy were present for several days at the Patrik Muratoglu Academy in Nice to take tests.

Grynkowski (30, ranked 1,846 according to the ATP website) and Choudy (21, currently unranked) tested in Nice and could be part of Simona Halep’s squad next year.

“My name appeared on the list, they called me and three days later I was on a plane to France.

I spent a trial week at the academy. Patrick Muratoglu wanted to see us personally, to see what level we are at, to get to know us better,” he says Piotr Hrynkovskyi for sport.tvp.pl.

In fact, Piotr has performed this role in the past, as a sparring partner, both for Iga Sviatek (currently the second leader in the WTA ranking), and for Magdalena Frech or Ursula Radwanska.

According to the quoted source, Grynkowski and Chudy are now waiting to hear back on whether either of them will be part of Simona Halep’s squad for the 2023 season.

Polish journalists also claim that many years ago there was another Pole in the staff of an important player: Michal Przyszny was a training partner of Caroline Wozniacki (former world leader and winner of the Grand Slam – Australian Open 2018, even with Simona Halep in the finals).

Simona Halep has announced that she will not play tennis again this year due to nose surgery. Our athlete had real chances to get to the Tournament of Champions.

Patrick Muratoglu is currently working with Denmark’s Holger Rooney, who is ranked 27th in the ATP rankings, until Simona’s return to the court.
