President of the Football Federation of Romania, Rezvan Burleanu, spoke at a press conference about what will happen to the matches that the “tricolors” have to play against the representative team of Kosovo as part of the 2024 European Championship qualifying tournament.

According to the schedule set by UEFA, Romania should meet the Kosovo team in June next year (away) and in September (at home).

Meetings between the two teams are in question, given the fact that our country does not recognize the state of Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008.

Teodor Melescanu, the former foreign minister, said that Rezvan Burlean will have to find a diplomatic solution or Edi Iordenescu’s players risk losing 3-0 “at the green table”.

In this context, Rezvan Burleanu stated that he has already started communicating with the Romanian government and gave examples of other countries that played against the representative team of Kosovo, even if they do not recognize the independence of this state.

“In the context of the geopolitical situation, the FRF has initiated a dialogue with the Romanian government to see under what conditions we can organize matches with Kosovo, both at home and away. Until we receive an official response from the Government, I beg leave to say nothing more on the subject.

We only have to wait for the Romanian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide clarification on this request from us in the coming days. What I can tell you is that I am sure this match will be played at home. We are not the only country that would be in this situation, I mean Spain, Cyprus or Greece, who organized matches on their field.

In addition, CFR Cluj played in the groups of the Conference League in Pristina, and on November 3 they will play at home with Ballkani of Kosovo” – Rezvan Burleanuduring the press conference.
