Iker Casillas announced on Sunday via social media that he is gay. The legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper asked for respect, but after a few minutes the post disappeared from the Iberian’s Twitter account.
In a tweet posted on Sunday afternoon, the former goalkeeper said: “I hope you respect me: I’m gay.”
Casillas’ colleague in the Spanish national team, Carles Puyol, supported him with a joke: “Iker, now is the time to tell what happened between us”.

Spanish publication AS claims that Casillas’ post on Twitter is a cheeky response to rumors about his possible relationship with Alejandra Onieva, the former daughter-in-law of Spanish TV presenter Tamara Falco.
Iker Casillas was married to sports journalist Sara Carbonero for five years before their divorce in March 2021. They have two children together, both boys.
