The IBA (International Boxing Association) has decided to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to return to competitions that will be held under the auspices of the world forum. The decision takes effect immediately, reports iba.sport.

“The IBA believes that politics should not influence sport. As a result, all athletes must use the same conditions.

The IBA will remain politically neutral and independent. IBA calls for peace. In addition, the IBA is obliged to ensure equal treatment of athletes and officials, regardless of their nationality and place of residence,” the forum said.

Athletes from Russia and Belarus will be able to perform under the flags of their countries and, if they win a gold medal, will sing their country’s national anthem.

Technical officials from the two countries will also return to the IBA competition, the international forum added, as quoted by News.ro.

Athletes and officials from Russia and Belarus were suspended from IBA competitions in early March this year, following the start of Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine.

The president of the IBA is the Russian Umar Kremliov.
