Romania is in last place in Group 3 of Division B of the Nations League after four matches played. Ahead of the match against Finland, the team’s coach Edi Iordenescu said he wanted most of all for his students to prove that the results of the summer were a fluke in favor of bad luck.

Edi Iordenescu and the desire to show that Romania’s poor results were just a fluke

At the press conference before the match with Finland (Friday, from 21:45 – LiveTEXT on HotNews.ro), coach Edi Iordenescu touched on several topics of discussion.

“For me, history and statistics play a role, but we know that when you go out on the field, nothing guarantees you a positive result. From my point of view, the personal disappointment was great in June, but the confidence and expectations remain as high, and I have arguments: firstly, I am sure that in June we did not show the maximum potential, more than that. I can say that I was also unlucky both off the field – I had problems with many players and in games.

I want the fans to see another national team with more determination, ambition and pride. I want the consolidation of a national team that has real chances to reach the European Championship.

This is my third appearance in the national team and I have, in general, a complete picture of the situation. I felt that the players are beginning to understand and learn from our wishes, what I want from the team – mentally, tactically.

It remains for them to prove it on the field, and we must look like a team that has aspirations and real chances to reach the final tournament. We have to look good and change the image and impression left in June. I expect that tomorrow we will sacrifice ourselves for the sake of the result!” – Edi Iordanescu, quoted by News.ro.

Edi Yordenescu, high expectations from players who make it to the first team

“You notice a lot of players being called up who were the backbone of the national under-21 team or in the junior teams. That there are comments about certain players, they always will be. They are natural things. I can tell you that all these players who are missing have an open door to the national team.

Florinel Coman is a player who can help Romania, he is a player who comes after a very difficult period and who I know very well. This is an outstretched hand from me to Florinel Coman. My expectations are high. I extended my hand, and in the shortest possible time he must give two hands for the national team. He needs this incentive.

For me, the players who made it to the national team are the best players in Romania and I have high hopes.

The problem is that we have a lot of players abroad who play in the lower leagues. Some people out there have problems to impose themselves, and it does not give me peace. And this is one of the biggest problems of the nation.

As for the group and qualification, theoretically at the moment we have a chance for 1st place, I want points, but I want us to remain hopeful while raising the bar. This is what all fans of the national team are waiting for” – Edi Jordanescu.
