Simona Halep to no longer play tennis in 2022 – She needs time to recover from nose surgery

Simona, who is ranked No. 9 in the WTA rankings, said she needs three months to recover from a nose operation, but assured fans that she still has many goals.

“I would like to update you on my current situation, reflect on what has happened this year and, as I always do, share my deepest feelings.

As you already know, because I’ve said it many times, in February I was very close to quitting tennis because I didn’t think I had enough strength to get back into the top 10. I went through many moments of anxiety and I thought it was time to stop because it was emotionally unhealthy.

Then I was lucky enough to open Patrick’s Academy, where I felt such passion that it renewed my passion for tennis. Thanks to Patrick, I gradually began to believe that I could still play tennis at a high level. I was completely open to whatever he told me to do, how I had to do it, and how much work I had to put in. I did everything completely. My goal was very clear: I gave myself a year to get back into the top 10.

When I decide something, I always stick to it, and I trusted Patrick 100%, so I wanted only his people to guide me. So I made a lot of changes in my team. Because I felt it was the right thing to do: to be fully involved in this project. It was a really tough time because I was always putting pressure on myself and with the best coach by my side I felt even more pressure to win and be successful.

This led to a panic attack during my match in Paris. I felt Roland Garros was the moment I had to play great because of all my work. I could not stand the pressure and gave up.

I then spoke to Patrick and told him I needed to relax because I couldn’t play with the pressure I was putting on my back and asked him to be patient with me for the next 6 months. No expectations. He listened, agreed and supported me 100%.

After that I was able to play my best tennis. Even faster than I expected, I was back in the top 10 in just 2 months. The goal has been achieved!

But then, when I lost at the US Open, I realized that I was completely mentally exhausted. Having had breathing problems for many years that had worsened over time, I decided to follow the advice of my doctors and undergo the necessary surgery.

I couldn’t do it before because I never found the three months I needed to recover because tennis was always at the forefront of my life. But I felt it was the right time to do it and also do something for myself as an individual. Therefore, I also engaged in aesthetics, which I wanted for a long time, because I did not like my nose at all. So I did, I decided the functional part and the aesthetic part. I know many of you can relate.

I don’t know how long the rehabilitation period will last, right now I can’t think about anything else but recovery. I know for sure that I won’t be able to play in any tournaments this year. The 2022 season is over for me. 2022 was an interesting and eventful year for you. See you on the court in 2023. I still feel like I have a lot more to give on the tennis court and I still have goals to reach.” – Simona Halepon Instagram.

The last official match Simona Halep played was on August 29 at the 2022 US Open, Grand Slam, where she lost in the inaugural round to Daria Snigur of Ukraine.
