Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu, the 2014 and 2018 Olympic champion, aimed for a quadruple axel at the Beijing Olympics in February, but failed to land a full spin jump.
Ilya Malinin was close to selection for the Olympic Games in Beijing, but the American federation preferred Jason Brown.
At the 2022 World Championships in Montpellier in March, he was 4th in the short program and eventually finished 8th.
He is the junior world champion.
His parents, Tetiana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov, originally from Kazakhstan and settled in the US before he was born, were both high-level figure skaters, writes News.ro.
