​Romanian women’s handball runner-up CSM Bucharest beat Crimea Ljubljana 30-28 (17-19) in their Champions League Group A opener.

As part of CSM Bucharest, the main scorers were Zaadi with 8 goals, Nyagu with 5, Pintya with 4, and Dmytrieva and Radichevich were outstanding in Crimea, with 9 goals each.

Crimea led 18-13 at halftime, but CSM made an impressive comeback in the second half.

CSM Bucharest’s next match will be away against Brest Bretagne Handball on September 18.

  • CSM Bucharest leader Cristina Nyagu started the Champions League season in 3rd place on the all-time scoring list with 910 goals, behind Anita Horbic (1,016 goals) and Jovanka Radicević (978). After the first stage, Nyagu scored 915 goals.
  • In Group B, the champion Rapid Bucharest also made its debut with a victory over Lokomotiva Zagreb (31-27). The next match of “Rapid” Bucharest will be played at home on September 18 against “Metz”.

The Norwegian team Vipers Kristiansand owns the trophy.
