Serena Williams on ending her tennis career: “Tears were streaming down my face as I typed”
The American, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, made the announcement in the prestigious Vogue magazine, saying she wants to “develop” outside of tennis in the near future.
“Yes, it was not easy at all. I remember I happened to be in Switzerland and I was sitting at my desk in a hotel just writing and erasing and writing and thinking and then I was crying and sitting in front of the computer with tears streaming down my face as I typed these are the words and I was going back to those memories.
And it was like, oh my god, it was really hard. I thought if I’m going to do it, I should do it in the September issue of Vogue, right?’ – Serena Williams on the Archetypes podcast, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
From August 29 to September 11, New York will host the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. The champions of the title are Daniil Medvedev and Emma Reducanu.
