David Popovici qualified for the 100m freestyle final at the European Senior Swimming Championships in Rome on Friday, setting a new European record.

David Popovici Qualifies for CE Swimming 100m Freestyle Final

After setting a new competition record (47.20) in the races, David impressed again and broke the European record: 46.98.

The previous record (47.11) belonged to the Russian Klyment Kolesnikov. In doing so, Popovici approached the all-time best time set by Cesar Cielo Filho in 2009 at 46.91.

The final of the 100m freestyle is scheduled for Saturday at 19:22 (Romanian time).
