The tenth favorite of the “WTA 1000” competition, Gauff won 6-4, (8)6-7, 7-6(3). The match lasted two hours and 49 minutes.
Rybakina (27 WTA) saved four match points in the second set (6-3 and 8-7), leading 3-2 in the deciding tie-break, but Gauff won the last five match points.
Rybakina finished the match with 8 aces (4 by Gauff) and 4 double faults (the American made 13!).
In the 1/8 finals of the tournament in Toronto, Corey Gauff will play the winner of the match between Aryna Sabalenko (Belarus, 6 WTA) and Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain, 41 WTA).
Also on Wednesday, Karolina Plishkova (14th favorite) easily beat Amanda Anisimov (22nd WTA) with a score of 6-1, 6-1. Cech won only in the 53rd minute of the game.

The tournament in Toronto has a prize pool of $2,697,250 and is held on a “hard” surface. The last winner is the Italian Camila Giorgi.
