
Carlos Alcaraz, the second favorite for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal, was eliminated on Wednesday in the first match played (he was taken directly in the second round).
Carlos, who is ranked 4th in the world, lost after three hours and 23 minutes of play to American Tommy Paul (34 ATP), score (4)6-7, 7-6(7), 6-3.
Alcaraz led in the set 3-0, Paul came back, could not finish the set with his serve (5-4), but saved a match point in the tie-break and moved the match to a decider (he won after the result of the fifth game -point, the first of the serve).
In the next round of the competition in Montreal, Tommy Paul will meet the winner of the match between the Croatian Marin Cilic (16 ATP, favorite 13) and the Russian Karen Khachanov (28 ATP).

- In the last tournaments in which he participated (Hamburg and Umag), Carlos Alcaraz reached the final, but lost each time.
- Alcaraz won at least one set in his first 50 matches this season. The last person to do it was Novak Djokovic in 2011.
