The 2022 Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios (37 ATP) overcame Argentine Sebastian Baez (32 ATP) and declared that he will give everything in the match with Medvedev (the current Canadian Open champion and the leader of the world ranking).

“I’m happy to give everyone what they want: Kyrgios Vs. Medvedev, second round. It will be difficult, that’s for sure. I know that physically and mentally I am not as fresh as I would like. But he also won the title last week in Los Cabos. I hope he gets a little tired too. But I will do everything right. I’m going to rest well tonight, recover well and give it my all. I’m going to go out there and have fun and try to play as well as I can.

I feel good physically. Mentally I am very tired. I haven’t slept much the last two days, but I’m trying to put it behind me now. I’m in Montreal and I haven’t played great tennis here before, so I wanted to come here today and qualify for the match against Medvedev. It will be a lot of fun. I just want to leave fond memories of Montreal.

Medvedev also claims the title and is the number one racket in the world. The ranking doesn’t really matter as Baez is ahead of me. But Medvedev is a machine. Medvedev is a damn good player. His style is so unorthodox, he’s a great opponent and just an animal on the pitch.

I’m looking forward to seeing where I stand. Not a bad result if you lose to Medvedev. Most players suffer from this” – Nick Kyrgiosbefore the match with Daniil Medvedev.

Kyrgios and Medvedev have met three times before, with the Australian beating the Russian twice.

2019, Washington: 7-6(6), 7-6(4) for Kyrgios

2019, Rome: 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 for Kyrgios.
