Gareth Thomas, the former captain of the Welsh national rugby team, is the subject of a complaint to British justice by a former partner who accuses him of passing him HIV while he concealed the fact that he is HIV positive.
According to court filings, the plaintiff, Jan Baum, 59, believes Thomas “failed to take the necessary precautions” to avoid contamination. “He hid the fact that he had HIV and passed it on to me,” he told The Times.
According to court documents, Baum says he learned of Thomas’ HIV status by researching pills the former player was taking online, claiming to be vitamins when they were actually HIV medication.
The plaintiff, who says he was HIV-negative when he began dating Thomas in 2013, alleges that Thomas was “coercive and overbearing” to prevent his HIV status from being made public. In 2019, the former player said that he had HIV.
Gareth Thomas (48, 100 caps for Wales) was the first player in history to come out as gay in 2009. After finishing his career, he became an activist for gay rights, News .ro writes.
