“Swimming World Magazine” praises David Popovich and assures that fans will see his exceptional performances in Rome.

“Although the young Romanian will turn 18 next month, he has already broken the 48-second barrier 10 times.

I repeat: this 17-year-old girl is in double digits in the 47-second range in the 100-meter freestyle.

His career best is 47.13. And expect some more 47-second races at the upcoming European Championships in Rome.

David Popovichi shone at the European Junior Swimming Championships in Otopeni, winning at least five medals and being recognized as the best athlete at the competition.

The young Romanian athlete also performed excellently at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest. He won two gold medals at distances of 100 and 200 meters freestyle.

During the entire World Swimming Championships, only one athlete managed to win the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events from the same edition.

It happened 49 years ago, and the person celebrating this feat is called Jim Montgomery (USA – he is now 67 years old).​
