Bianca Andreescu, who spent a difficult year on the tennis court, spoke about the support of Romanian fans before the tournament in Toronto.
There are Romanians everywhere in the world, less so in Romania
When asked if there is a community of Romanian tennis fans in Canada, the 22-year-old mentioned the Romanians’ exodus and said they are present all over the world.
Niku and Maria, Bianca’s parents (originally from the Weideene commune in Vilch), emigrated to Canada in the mid-90s.
“In 2019, I saw a lot of Romanian flags. We have a joke where we say that Romanians are everywhere, less so in Romania. Wherever I am, even if it’s the US Open, Cincinnati, in Europe, I see Romanians everywhere, and it’s nice to receive support from them, thanks to my background.” – said Bianca Andreescuat the press conference.
In the first round of the competition in Toronto, Bianca (53 WTA) will meet Daria Kasatkina (9 WTA, favorite 11), who just won the tournament in San Jose.
