Almost three-quarters of Premier League footballers have received abusive messages, some on a daily basis, according to research.

A special algorithm was used to analyze 2.3 million messages sent to Premier League players in the first five months of last season.

60,000 posts deemed offensive were identified, with 68% of Premier League players receiving at least one message during the period and one in 14 receiving offensive messages every day.

Yes, Ronaldo received 12,520 offensive tweets, while Maguire received 8,954, followed by Marcus Rashford, also of Manchester United, who received 2,557.

In fact, eight Manchester United players made the unwanted top 10 in this section, joined by captain Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) and Jack Grealish (Manchester City).

However, according to Agerpres, there were also 57% of positive tweets directed at footballers.
