Tsipras: N.D. wants to discredit public services in the field of education

He spoke of the need for a different culture to prevail in a public university along with increased costs. Alexis Tsipraswho, as part of his trip to Magnesia, met with the leadership of the rector and representatives of the teaching, scientific and technical staff of the University of Thessaly.

Mr. Tsipras stressed that the significant efforts being made at the public university – and at the University of Thessaly – and the distinctions that Greek universities receive, further underline that the whole discussion about a public university is “based on the logic of defamation.” as they appear as a man of iniquity.”

“All this is very unfair, I don’t know of any other branch in Greece that has as many international awards as Greek universities. It is also unfair to children who study at public universities,” he commented, noting that despite the high level, Greek university graduates cannot be absorbed, and therefore most of them choose to go abroad. “If we see what opportunities a graduate student abroad has compared to ours, it will make you cry.”

According to him, the interweaving of economic, social and production factors. makes it difficult to learn Greek. “A studio apartment in Volos sold for 300 euros,” he said characteristically, adding: “If we want to invest as a country in the future, we must invest in human capital.”

Mr Tsipras said that education, like health care, is a clash of two different cultures and two different worlds, and there is a huge space for private spending in education.

The President of SYRIZA accused the ND of wanting to discredit public services in order to create a sphere of private interests in education as well. “This is not only a matter of financial capacity, but also a matter of priorities and will. We have made efforts to update the public education map despite financial constraints. However, we do not see that the efforts have the necessary continuity and that there is no necessary support through spending. “When the European average is 5.5%, we are two units behind here,” Mr Tsipras said, adding: “If we want to move closer to the EU, we need to figure out how to support education, health and public healthcare. infrastructure. We are committed to doubling spending on education over the next four years and doubling the number of teachers in public institutions. This requires a different understanding of how you want the economy and society to be. The best minds are leaving, the country is aging, and this will create a vicious cycle of productivity.”
