Address “K” is to be commended. Thanks to her prestige, she constantly keeps the issue in the news. Today I’m changing roles. I take office as an Albanian official responsible for Hellas V Tirana. He diligently writes down his questions:
• What exactly do the Greeks mean when they talk about Freddie Belleri they declare in Heimarra: “Greece always has your back. Know it’?
• What exactly do at least four of its prime ministers mean when they boast (ata po shkelmojn) that Athens is playing a leading role in Albania’s accession to the European Union?
• Why do they suddenly say that “Albania’s European path goes through the protection of the fundamental human rights and property of members of the Greek national minority”?
• Will they explain to us what they want when they approach us with reservations, however, “unless we have strong evidence against Beleris”?
• What exactly do they mean when they accuse us of “Albania offending the public sense of justice and the European concept of the rule of law”? Do they realize it now?
For all of us, the question remains unanswered: why is the elected mayor of Heimarra, Freddy Beleris, in a prison cell?
• Should we be concerned about Athens’ statements that “this issue remains one of the priorities”?
• Our embassy in Athens notes that few people write articles – the same ones – mostly in “K”, and politicians of great scope rarely raise this issue in the pre-election period. It’s not even about political debate. Why should we worry?
• An unexpectedly positive fact in favor of our positions is the contradictions and disagreements that arise even in those few cases when the municipal councils decide to pass resolutions in support of Beleris. Give arguments using the positions of the disputants?
The record of the Albanian questions by a competent official in Tirana is fantastic, perhaps indicative, but incomplete. For all of us, the question remains unanswered: why is the elected mayor of Heimarra, Freddy Beleris, in a prison cell?
