There are similar reports in other Turkish newspapers. like Milliet and Aksamwhere the fears of the Turkish leadership about the tightening of Greek-American relations and about the US base a few kilometers from the Greek-Turkish border are also manifested.

Hurriyet’s response from Athens, which becomes the main topic of the day for a pro-government newspaper, highlights Burns’ visit to Alexandroupolis, which was called “Dedeagats” using the official Ottoman name Alexandroupolis until a century ago.

“Even if this was not cleared up by Burns’ visit, it became clear a day later with the visit of US Ambassador George Tsunami to the city where the US base is located near the Turkish border,” the Turkish newspaper writes. .

It is emphasized, among other things, that “Alexandroupolis, which is located 40 km from the Turkish border, has recently become one of the most important US logistics ports in Europe. In recent days, the city has returned to the fore after several interesting and consistent visits.”

At the same time, Burns’ visit to Athens (May 30) and then to Alexandroupolis (June 1) is mentioned in detail, followed last Friday by visits by both Mr. Tsunis and their colleagues from Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Romania. and Moldova, who also inspected the port of Alexandroupoli.

All this is framed by a photo of G. Burns, the logo of the CIA and of course Asteroiez.

In fact, it adds that “neither the local authorities of the National Intelligence Service (EYP) nor the Greek police were informed of this visit.”

Tsunis’ statements from Alexandroupolis on June 2 are also listed, namely that the city of Thrace has become an energy center that will ensure security and stability not only for Greece, but also for other countries in the region, adding that “everyone recognizes the importance of Alexandroupolis as an energy and a commercial center, as well as a NATO logistics center.”
