From Marusya where her president was during the day PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakiscommented on the situation of the National Health Service regarding the tragic incident on Kos.
“It is inconceivable that in 2023 a woman would die in the back of a truck due to the lack of an ambulance on the big island of our country. We have repeatedly stressed that the national health system needs to be supported. Lack of staff, lack of infrastructure. The European Union has set up a Recovery Fund with a top priority – due to the pandemic – to support public health,” Mr Androulakis said, adding that “8-10% of the fund should go towards rebuilding the national health system. Greek citizens cannot pay the third largest private health expenditure in the European Union.”
He pointed out that there is a need for a strong primary health care network in which doctors and healthcare workers are paid at the level of the European Union average and join the severe and unhealthy.
“PASOK’s priority is revival of the national health systemto deal with great inequalities and have a strong state for the citizens, the middle class, the weakest. This is the European social model, and this is what the democratic faction stands for in these difficult conditions that the Greek people are going through,” he stressed.
For PASOK election campaign– The Movement for Change in Attica, where its percentage is lower than in the rest of Greece, said that daily efforts are being made everywhere, while adding that “the progressive world of our country must support us so that there is a strong, reliable opposition in our homeland. And not to have a government that created huge inequality, discredited the welfare state, lit up in very serious scandals and corruption (wiretapping, the Patsis case). However, instead of losing strength, it gains a greater percentage.”
He attributed this to his weakness. SYRIZA create a credible opposition. “PASOK must become this credible progressive opposition so that New Democracy has a real opponent. PASOK’s first goal is to have a reliable progressive alternative. The revival of the democratic faction must have a progressive home for every Greek woman and every Greek man who has common anxieties with all of us,” he stressed.
