
In its latest update on Saturday, the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy regarding the two cargo ships that collided off Chios on Friday is refining the details of the incident recorded by the Greek authorities.
“About the collision of the cargo ship ANT, the flag of Vanuatu, with the cargo ship POTENTIA, the flag of Singapore, at noon on 06/02/2023 in the sea area 9 nautical miles north-north-west of the island of Chios in international waters. and within the Greek search and rescue area, it is known that a Vanuatu-flagged ANT cargo vessel was under its own power, escorted by Coast Guard-Hellenic Coast Guard patrol boats, towards the port of Smyrna, where it safely left the Greek search and rescue area early this morning, at while the Singapore-flagged vessel POTENTIA was sailing under its own power to the port of Malta.
The ministry’s statement also notes that “no pollution of the marine environment as a result of the incident was observed and no casualties were reported.”
