Elections: dilemmas of the second round

In the campaign for the second election the parties enter with a thread of continuity from the previous pre-election period, as well as the necessary adjustments and new dilemmas as they are imposed by the result.

In N.D. “secure self-reliance” boils down to a basic message and requirement to avoid a third election and have the necessary stability to carry out the government program.

IN SYRIZA they are aiming for a “full reset” after the disastrous outcome of the first Sunday and assume they are in
one-sided fight with N.D. prevent the prospect of an omnipotent government. They also create a management dilemma.
70 billion from the rescue fund.

TO PASOK they cut all bridges of cooperation and prioritize the need for effective opposition to the SI, which they claim directly from SYRIZA.

Elections: dilemmas of the second round-1

“Reliable Self Confidence”

Stavros G. Papantoniou

The great victory of the New Democracy on May 21 inevitably leads to the continuation of the tactics that were used and brought a clear victory. However, the key difference between the first and second vote is that we now have a concrete result that inevitably changes the political scene and the concrete data in the campaign against the two main parties:

First, about SYRIZA. Prior to the elections, New Democracy used as “leverage” a possible loser government or a special purpose government that Alexis Tsipras put forward in public debate by offering a “gift” to Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “The special purpose government is a paralysis government,” Mr. Mitsotakis said before May 21, an argument that has now disappeared from the election results themselves. The chaotic difference between the two parties and the absence of any possibility of forming a government without New Democracy takes this argument out of sight and shifts the center of gravity elsewhere. What Mr. Mitsotakis makes clear in every tone and will henceforth be the centerpiece of the narrative is that the very large difference between the parties makes the need for self-reliance all the more imperative. Speaking to Mega yesterday, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized that “if the citizens believe that we should implement them (including the program) and want to trust me that I will implement them, I ask for a strong mandate for a stable government.” “.

In simple words, the rhetoric of N.D. she leaves the rest of the parties completely and will focus only on herself, calling on the citizens who voted for her on May 21 to repeat this. In fact, the May 21 elections showed that “the only prospect for the country is the capture of the ND.” self-confidence, since any other result is unattainable, ”a source from Piraeus explains to“ K ”.

Third election

Before the elections, each time Mr. Mitsotakis was asked about the scenario for the third election, he replied that “the vote of the citizens in the first election will decide who will govern the country, and in the second how the country will be governed.” Today the answer is clear, as the President of the ND said, he asks for “safe self-reliance”, which will be an addition to the slogan of the party, wanting to send a message that a percentage of over 39% is needed to achieve the goal, so that it has 157-158 deputies and drives safely. In addition, the victory of Tayyip Erdogan in the elections is an additional reason that the country will have a strong government on June 26.

At the same time, Mr. Mitsotakis, in an interview he gave to K and Alexis Papachelas, raised for the first time in public debate the question of a third election, which did not exist before 21 May. When asked what would happen in the event of a marginal majority, he spoke of a “threatening scenario” that could lead to “non-governance or paralyzing compromises, even a third election.”

Androulakis’ argument

The scenario of the third election was not set by chance. The clear position of N. Androulakis that he is not going to lend a helping hand to ND. even if it has 149 MPs, this gives Mr. Mitsotakis an additional argument to point out that “autonomy or a third election” is indeed a possible scenario for which he is not responsible, but caused by PASOK. “What I can tell you right now, given Mr. Androulakis’ post-election stance, is that there is no political choice in the country today other than a self-sufficient ND,” he said yesterday.

Moreover, it is no coincidence that the president of the National Democratic Party has set his sights on the party of Nikos Androulakis, intensifying the criticism that began in the past two months. “Sometimes, Mr. Androulakis, if I hadn’t listened to him, if I had only read what he said, I would have thought he was copying Mr. Tsipras,” Mr. Mitsotakis said, naming the two political leaders and continuing to “talk” with the centrist base that voted for him on May 21.

Finally, with regard to the right-wing Greek Solution and Victory parties, the tactic that is changing is that even more targeted visits will be made to Northern Greece, to municipalities where both parties have scored high percentages.

New dilemmas from Tsipras

Antonis Anzoletou

Alexis Tsipras, determined to change SYRIZA on the fly, appears before his entourage. As he stated after the first meeting with the G20 Electoral Commission, “we are raising our bar and mobilizing all human resources to achieve our great goal, which is to reverse the correlations on May 21, in connection with the next elections.” The remaining time is limited, and this time the party’s new narrative must be clear. What is the key message? The fact that SYRIZA is the party in power, the ruling force of the left, and the vote for it has a positive sign, being a message of hope and support for the popular sections of society. What they make clear is that the battle against New Democracy is one-sided.

“Historical Debt”

Komunduru is aware of the new difficult relationship after the recent crushing defeat. This was recognized by Alexis Tsipras, however, pointing out the historic debt that SYRIZA faces, which is another bet for June 25: “We must avert the nightmarish prospect of an omnipotent and uncontrollable right … the next period will come to bring about radical changes in life of the overwhelming social majority. The leader of the official opposition raised another dilemma at the meeting, which will be imperative in view of the next four years: “How, under what conditions and who will manage the 70 billion of the Recovery Fund.”

In Kumunduru, they will focus on the need to clearly hear the “alternative, realistic and radical proposal of the government.” Health, education, debt, income, social status, rights, and the rule of law will become major disputes. They will appeal to those who hesitate, emphasizing that carte blanche should not be given to a government that has proven over the past four years that it will continue its anti-popular plans with greater intensity.

For PASOK, from the official opposition, they have decided to respond when they deem it necessary. At the first stage, senior leaders note that in the coming days, citizens will be able to judge which force is looking for progressive solutions and which does not exclude joint management with the ND if it does not become self-sufficient. .

Calm is required

After last week’s Central Committee meeting in Kumundura, they only want a calm tone on the way to the elections. The announced fact of the absence of the leaders of the “Umbrella” in the Electoral Committee was commented on Friday in the Executive Office, but no further action was taken. The logic of the leadership group is that the talk of trends has been overcome, and what is being put forward through the “shock group” is a strong technocratic element, but also an air of renewal that exists in the party. The information states that it was proposed to add Nikos Vutsis to the Executive Office, given his experience, without further discussion. During the week there will be extended meetings of prefects throughout Greece with the participation of leading leaders who will participate in the new Organizational Office.

Dionysis Theboneras acts as the coordinator of the election commission, while the G20 will work in groups. They will take over separate thematic sections (health, youth, work, etc.) in order to conduct targeted excursions and present the program of the party. As Alexis Tsipras stated, “our decision is to try to restore the program positions of SYRIZA for the next four years.”

Elections: dilemmas of the second round-3

Goal is central to the opposition map

By redefining his strategy towards N.D. and SYRIZA, PASOK enters a new pre-election period, announcing a strengthening of its percentage, as Harilaou-Trikoupi considers the percentage of the first electoral contest to be the starting point for a party to claim more votes. The ultimate goal, as the party leadership has repeatedly stated, is to return to the role of the official opposition.

This desire forms the characteristics and differentiation of positioning in relation to political opponents, since there will be no differentiation at the level of a keynote speech, submission of proposals and a communicative strategy, since in this part the strategy was recognized as successful.

In relation to N.D. Nikos Androulakis made sure to cut all the bridges that existed before the first elections. Before the May 21 elections, PASOK’s position was that it remains open to the prospect of cooperation with software convergents and a third party in the premiership. Now Char. Trikoupi makes it clear that there is no room to discuss post-election cooperation with the ND. This choice comes after she lays claim to a central role on the “map” of the opposition. As N. Andrulakis’s colleague explains, such a discussion cannot take place when you apply for the position of an oppositionist.

At the same time, from the moment N.D. the issue of autonomy is emphasized, PASOK believes that there is no real basis for opening any discussion. At the same time, the PASOK leadership group is drawing clear dividing lines against SYRIZA, sending a strong message that the road to a second election is a two-front struggle. And before the May 21 elections, Char’s choice was obvious. Trikoupi for distancing itself from Kumundur’s constant flirtation and repeated calls for a united front of progressive forces, while PASOK questions the progressive nature of SYRIZA. At the start of the second election campaign, Har. Trikoupis doubts SYRIZA’s ability to effectively play the role of the official opposition.

N. Androulakis, speaking yesterday at a meeting of the Political Council of the party, appealed to all progressive citizens to strengthen PASOK. A message is being sent from within that the party must enter the electoral march with unity and momentum to avoid any crisis of introversion that may be caused by Mr. Androulakis’s choice to keep his seat. , leaving Haris Kastanidis out of Parliament.

At the organizational level, Stefanos Parastatides was entrusted with the mobilization in Macedonia with a door-to-door strategy. As noted, party officials will be selected for the rest of the country’s regions, who will take on a greater mobilization of local organizations and candidates in order to avoid the risk of inaction in the re-elections.
