At yesterday’s meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to the press service of the Prime Minister, the state policy of the interim government was determined in accordance with Article 81, Parts 1 and 2 of the Constitution.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Ioannis Sharmas noted that, due to the nature of government, government policy should be limited to fulfilling the plans of a failed political government and managing risks identified within the purview of each ministry.
Regarding the first object, the prime minister specified that the implementation of the planned should continue, but within the framework of the political neutrality of the government without prejudice to the functionality of the state.
With regard to the second theme (risk management), the Prime Minister stated that this requires the identification of risks, the provision of a system for their prevention or mitigation, and control over the effective implementation of this system.
This was followed by proposals from all members of the Cabinet, most notably the Deputy Prime Minister’s Minister of State.
From the recommendations of the members, it was determined that there were issues to be resolved during the term of the interim government with the participation of several ministers. In this regard, it was decided to hold immediate meetings with the participation of the competent ministers, coordinated by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State.
It also found that there are risks that need to be addressed, either because they can be tested during the tenure of the interim government, or because they can be tested immediately after it. With regard to this matter, it was decided that, under the leadership of the competent minister, the necessary measures should be taken quickly to solve the problems involved, if necessary with the intervention of the prime minister or a new meeting of the cabinet.
Also, on examples from specific cases, the limit of exercising the powers of ministers was clarified due to the officiality of the government, noting that no initiatives should be taken without prior notice to the prime minister.
The level of representation of the country at European or international meetings during the stay of the interim government was finally determined.
